Important information for Tennessee voters

The first time you vote, it must be in person (not absentee) unless you were registered by a government employee, such as Election Commission staff.

Where you vote depends on where you live. Moving within the county? Notify the county election commission. They will send you a new registration card with your new voting precinct. Moving between counties in Tennessee? You will need to register again in your new county. Both actions can be taken on GoVoteTN.

During the early voting period, you may vote at any early voting location in the county. On the actual election day, you must vote in your assigned precinct unless your county has Convenience Voting Centers. Find your voting location here.

Your county election commission can help with accommodations for disability or translation issues. If needed, you may bring someone to assist you.

A federal or Tennessee issued photo ID is needed every time you vote.

Acceptable ID:

  • Tennessee driver’s license
  • US passport
  • US military ID
  • Tennessee photo handgun permit
  • Other photo IDs issued by the federal or TN government

Not acceptable ID:

  • Student ID
  • Photo ID issued by other states
